Last thursday, I met up with a bunch of other POTNers at The Lowry centre in Manchester for a group shoot and general chat. They were a great bunch of guys and I seemed to spend much of the evening chatting, rather than shooting. However, I did get some shots in the can.

I concentrated mainly on The Lowry building itself and these are my favourite shots of it. Please feel free to leave c&c, ANY thoughts on these are welcome (good or bad) as they all help the learning experience.

In addition, I took a couple of shots of the bridge in front of the centre. On the second of these, I gave in to temptation and played around with which windows were lit up, in the building on the far side.

I like these shots, especially 5 ,6 and 8. The colours of the lighting that you've managed to capture are brilliant.

If I'm being very critical, I think a couple of them could benefit from some slight anti-clockwise rotation (e.g. the second one). Because the building has so many bold straight lines, a small degree of rotation away from level becomes really obvious.

That's very critial, though, and I think these are fantastic images.

Many thanks for the comments guys, they are much appreciated. I see you are both newish members to POTN, so welcome to the madhouse.

Gary: It was tricky lining those shots up as they are all shot at wide to ultrawide angle, so most straight lines aren't parallel, and are also curved away from the middle too. It was a compromise with choosing just which line to align them with. I agree that some aren't quite straight but, as they feature distorted perspective, it was a case that the angle which was actually correct didn't work visually. No.2 was rotated both ways and that angle seemed to work best to my eyes. I think it was lined up on the platform with 'the lowry' sign on it, but yes, that does mean it isn't quite right in other places.

5. is also slightly tilted to the right (looking at the pavement) but the angles of the buildings seemed to work better as it is.

Changing the subject slightly, I see you are also in the north-west. The group of guys I met up with are looking at making these get togethers a regular thing around the NW, you are more than welcome to join us and get to know a few of the members.

Bleng: The last shot was taken with a 24-105L, set at 35mm. It was mounted on a 5D, so was a 'true' 35mm - A '1.6 crop' camera would need a focal length of around 22mm to get the same field of view.
