Thanks to the many positive comments on this forum, I am now the owner of a Canon i9900 printer but I am not sure if I have a problem.

When I unpacked the printer and opened it up there was a long, perforated strip of metal rattling around inside the printer. It seems to fit over the pin rollers where the paper exits the printer but seems to serve no purpose other than capping the many crevises in the plastic molding that holds the pin rollers. There is a spring clip near one end that may have something to do with holding the strip in place but there is no way to engage the clip. When I turn the printer one, the printhead carriage moves to the center position and is not in contact with the metal strip. It looks like I could remove the strip entirely without affecting anything.

I hate to go through the hassle of returning the printer if all the strip does is act as a dust cap. Any clues about this mystery strip? ???

Thanks,
Jim

It works fine. Still don't know what the metal strip does but at least it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

:D
