Its been nice and sunny this week until the Fedex truck driver shows up with my new lens! Now its rainy and cloudy  Can't wait to take this new baby out on a sunny day. Everybody always seems to comment on how much of a light hog this lens is.

FIgures...I've been drooling over this lens for a while now. f/5.6, jeez...makes me want to sell my car and buy a 400 f/2.8.

Looks like Murphy's Law has come into play. :) Same thing happened when I bought my first motorcycle...rained for nine straight days.

Oh yeah...way to go Kuma. I'm glad I don't live near you.
You bought a great piece of glass...you might want to pay attention and see if your neighbor has a bunch of animals coming over into maybe a really big boat he might be building....

Its an awesome piece, lots of fun but requires proper technique (even with a lot of light) to master it!

Any tips for using this lens? I've heard people mention it has a learning curve to it.

I just got mine yesterday. It is a bit different but after hearing everyone talk about the learning curve I was expecting it might be a bit difficult at first. But so far it hasn't been too bad. It will take a little getting used to. For me, partially because of the size and weight. I don't have any other lens that's even close to being that massive.

no real learning curve that i'm aware of or that i've experienced. just make sure you have enough shutter speed as you would any other lens.

don't be afraid to crank up the iso :D.

Razor sharp shots. I wish I lived closer to the San Diego zoo :) The Pittsburgh Zoo is very nice but not really in the same league I don't think.

I'm with you with the weather. I just picked up a new 24-105 f/4L and a 100mm f/2.8 macro and it the weather took a dump. I got out into the city for a bit yesterday but it clouded up fast.
