Hi everyone :)
There seem to be some very knowledgeable people on this forum so i thought i'd ask if anyone knows what kind of bug this is?'Till now i've been calling it a junk bug because of the huge pile of rubbish it seems to carry around everywhere
It did occur to me that they could look like that naturally but the 'stuff' on their backs seems to be different from bug to bug.The main body is about 5mm long

Yep, that's George, I seen him before...Just kidding! Don't know what it is, but interesting capture! This is from the side I take it? You sure it isn't a small spider carrying dinner?

It looks like a lacewing larva covered in goop. I don't know what the goop is, though.

Yup, that's a booger bug! I'd be wearin' nose plugs while sleeping if I were you. ;)

In all seriousness ...I have no idea. I would love to hear the story on this little guy though. Probably doesn't get many dates.

Wow that is odd! I was just looking at a bug site with lots of QLD bugs but I didn't see any like that, http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/pchew_brisbane/index.html (external link) might be worth a look.

There is a crab that is called a "decorator crab" that does this, but it lives underwater...

Pictured below is a so-called "trash bug." Trashbugs are immature brown lacewings. Like green lacewing larvae, brown lacewing larvae are predators, but some species cover themselves with debris and with the skins of their prey as a way to protect themselves from larger predators.

Good find- as commented above it's a lacewing larva- the baby larvae of these cover themselves in debris/bit of victim. They seem to stop doing it when they reach a certain size.

Here is one I spotted recently:

If it was not for the all the junk they carry around I would never have seen the bug.
