I'm shopping for a 1D Mark III. B&H has it for $4329 ($3995 used). There are several cheaper places on the web. I know, I know, I know...that some of prices on the web are too good to be true. My question is, are any of these places legit? Can anyone vouch for them in either a positive or negative way?

All prices for for Canon 1D Mark III

Best Price Cameras $2599
Express Cameras $2599
1 Way Photo $2799
Camera Addict $2899
Several others for low $3k

I know that I'm going to get blasted by the "if it sounds too good to be true, then it is..." phrase. I understand and agree. I do, however, believe that there may be a better deal than B&H is offering.

Thanks!

None of those are legit. At this point in time I'd say if it's new and under $4,000, it's not legit...and $4,000 would have me wondering. $4499 seems to be average while $4200-4300 is possible but not likely.

Wow...these sound like horrible stores. Then I entered Dell (a very reputable computer company) and every one bashed them too. I don't disagree that all of these photo companies may be scams, but I also think that this site may be just a place for people to complain.

How does anybody find a good deal these days?

Newegg, B&H, and Beach/BuyDig get high marks. If the store is legitimately doing well, it'll get good reviews. Dell does have issues like selling stock they don't even have at a super low price just to look good to shareholders, then being extremely slow to make good on those orders. Applies mostly to non-computer goods.

A good deal and a greedy deal aren't the same thing.

Resellerratings is not just a complaint site. It balances out over long term. A site with ratings of bellow 1 is definitely a scam though.

There are plenty of sites that have good ratings. Check this little store out. :D http://www.resellerratings.com/store/borrowlenses (external link)

I think it was resellerratings.com that someone actually posed the contents of some class action suits in NJ against Express Cameras and perhaps their other AKA's.

Assuming that even if all the negative postings about them were faked (and there is a LOAD of them)...wouldn't you think someone would post a few good ones???

Lotsa stuff, running outta room and a wife...I keep looking at her and wondering???

And I have to say I checked out Cameta Camera @ resellerratings.com before I ordered from them. And my transaction was handled straight up. No bait and switch or rude treatment or mis shipped items. The price was better than most on the net at the time ($749/ 30D with US warranty). The only glitch was my adding an item to the order the next day before Xmas which no one communicated to me delays the shipment by a day...even though I mentioned I wanted two day to meet a deadline. That failure to communicate on their part cost me an upgrade to next day shipping.
So reseller ratings was about right about them.

You may find a deal from a reputable store that is cheaper than B&H, but generally, it's not by much. Especially by almost $2000.
