I envy your vantage point. Now go across the river by the yellowish maintenance building in the OMSI parking lot at the river's edge on the far side at the left of your photo and wait for dark with your tripod ready. :)

I like #1, but it has a bit of a blue cast. I'd also try cropping the BG a bit to give more emphasis on the bridge.

Nice shot, and thanks for the tip!

Awesome shot. Now you need to go back there at night. I bet it would look even better then.

Many thanks! Having just got a new tripod, I have no excuse. With my new 35mm lens and a new-but-barely-used 1D, this bridge and cityscape should prove to be an interesting project.

The bridge at night would look sweet, maybe with a long shutter time to blur the cars together.
Even your edit seems like it could use some punch, ie turn up the saturation/contrast. Also might have been cool to see in HDR, dunno. Its good framing/composition, so it might be worth perfectin it as its a unique image.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. I was experimenting with Tone Mapping Emulation and blending layers--all from a single exposure--so I'll go back and rework the raw file, and then of course, re-shooting with multiple exposures would be good for HDR.

Maybe mask out the river in Photoshop and spray paint it a pleasing blue hue, something that would support life. With all of the cool bridges in Portland, I'm wondering why you chose the freeway bridge which has no personality.

I appreciate the effort, but neither photo is very interesting. I would also vote for trying it at night. Or maybe put on a telephoto and try portrait orientation since the real interest potential is with the Marquam.
