Weird. Even dumb luck should yield a couple keepers. Maybe it needs a massage back at the mother ship. Have you used it successfully in other similar situations?

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Can you check (via zoombrowser) where the AF points where please? Were you shooting servo or one shot AF? Did the AF issues occur with more than one lens? Was the lighting really low - AF on the 1D goes down to EV1, and becomes erratic after that. Were you using a slow zoom/lens? If so, less light will be available to the AF sensor, resulting in slower, and less accurate AF.

You need to give us a bit more information to work with...

Sorry, I thought that the EXIF's were imbedded. I switched back and forth between servo and one shot, but most of my shots were servo. I was shooting at iso 800 @1/320th to 1/500th. I shot with fast glass 70-200 2.8is; I only shot with this lens. Even in the daytime at ISO 1000 it is sharp.

I have had this camera for only 4 days from another POTN member so I didn't have any experience on this particular camera. I have not had problems with this model in the past; I shot the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl @ ISO 1250 @1/300th wth a 70-200 f/2.8IS with a 1.4TC with a 1d (not this one) and I got 700/1000 Keepers.

Thanks for the replies.... How much would a tune up from Canon be?

Man, those shots make me seriously paranoid about using only 1 camera at an event. I always carry two bodies, but I typically only use one unless I need two lengths of lenses often. I guess I never really thought about what would happen in a situation like this.

Not really sure what the issue could be.. :(

Good luck though :(

Maybe it had trouble focusing in low light?

maybe you didn't give it enough time to focus? or, I always do this, I keep hitting the button on my lens and it switches to MF and I never notice till it's too late...:-P

I've never had reason to use them myself yet, but maybe it has something to do with P.Fn-13 and/or P.Fn-14? They affect focus priority and detection. Check what yours are set to. Maybe the previous owner has them registered in the camera.

I'm guessing it didn't have the time to properly focus while on servo.

hmmm not to ask a dumb question but, are sure it was autofocusing ie. made sure teh autofocus switch on teh lens was on? I mean if every shot is OOF, i have a hard time beleive nothing is in focus... nothing in those images are sharp or in focus... What shutter speed were you using?

The OP posted what his shutter speeds and general settings were a few posts earlier...and if you've got the lens set to MF, you can't select one shot/servo via the camera - they're not available. If he was able to select one shot/servo, then the lens switch was set to AF.

Sorry bigvinnysd - my bad, I didn't think to check the EXIF (was late last night, gimme a break!). Shutter speeds look fine, aperture looks fine, ISO looks fine. My suspicion is that the AF wasn't locking. A few ideas - have the camera set to show AF is achieved by the AF point glowing red. Secondly, did you even chimp at all? I know you can't constantly chimp when at a game, but I do check the odd shot here and there to make sure basics are OK.

My suggestion is to test the 1D in the same lighting - there doesn't have to be a game on, just (if you can) go back to the venue with a friend and try one shot and ai servo and see what happens. Also, does the camera have any AF issues in normal lighting?

Bad luck on no good shots :(

Good thinking. I don't use those fn myself, so didn't even think of it. That said, the shots should have been appearing sharp in screen.

Just another thought for the OP - set the lens to MF, and focus manually on a subject. Take the shot and check the image on screen, is it sharp? I wonder if the dioptre settings have been altered as well (wouldn't count for that many oof shots though imho).

Or maybe it focused properly but you have residue or something on the lens/sensor/someplace?

I see you were using the 70-200L. If so, if you have the focus limiting switch set wrong, it will mess up the AF. For those shots, it should have been in the 2.5-infinity setting. If you were using the 1.4 setting, it would explain why your shots were mis focused.
