My laptop only has USB 1.1 capabilities but I bought a PCMCIA card adapter to give me USB 2 capabilities. My printer and my external hard drive work OK with the card adapter but my card reader doesn't. When I plug my card reader into the adapter it shows up in Windows Explorer as a drive but as soon as I try to read the card the drive disappears. When I plug the card reader into the computer it works but of course the computer tells me it would perform faster if plugged into a USB 2 port. The adapter has 2 ports and I have tried the card reader alone or with another device in the other port. I have booted the computer with the card reader in the adapter and I have just plugged the card reader into the adapter with the computer already booted.
Any suggestions as to how I can make the adapter recognize the card reader? I can download my pictures OK but I would like to speed up the process if possible. I have tried 2 different SanDisk card readers, one just a standard multi-card reader and one an Extreme model for CF/SD, and neither work in the card adapter.
