hey guys

one of my friends needed some corporate / executive photos for his site and a business magazine.

i took a bunch of photos today but i didnt have too much time to go through them all since my computer is on campus, and i really hate editing on my laptop (this photo was done via touchpad :P).

it was my first time using an umbrella / strobe setup since i received my impact kit last week. a 580ex + 430ex were used. i ended up having to reconstruct parts of the car that had a shadow casted onto it.

It's not bad but your subject looks a little too "cut and paste" to me.

Here I go. The person looks as if he isn't part of the background. Like he has been cut and pasted onto it. His facial expression, as well as the tail of the card, looks very 2D, flat. Like a piece of cardboard.

interesting... i was under the impression that rim lighting (if thats the right terminology) was to add a sense of depth to a photo?

how can i fix the "cut and paste" look? i kinda like it, but i guess theres always room for improvement.

Maybe the light reflecting off the car and back onto him has something to do with it?

Hmm. The photo seems very flat and "cardboard" like. Also seems very grainy. His face isn't in very good focus and his expression isn't the greatest. Unless he's going for a "bad ass" look.

it looks nice, but a bit oversharpened? and unless it is CEO of brabus, not sure how driving expensive car builds enough image for him. i would like it as normal photo or "personal photo" of CEO or so, it looks amazing, film like*, really cool but not for corporate use afaik...

*)maybe raise a bit blue to make it more into that

I like the photo. The texturised surface with sepia tone really shows the depth well.

The subject isolation works well too.

Not sure why the car has to be there unless he sells car as a business. It can alient people easily as he coule be protrayed as a person with a different "status".

I like the style, but the missing shaddow of the man on the car in un-natural

This shot is cool even with its technical issues but I would not really suggest it would be suitable for a corporate photo.

thanks for the input guys, still not too sure as to how to fix the cardboard look, is it something to do with the lighting or the pp in the image itself? i did use a high pass layer to give it a little film look, but im not too sure if i do like the end result.

i guess i mis-titled the post, but his business does deal with cars, but he did want some personal photos also.
