A local scene I took recently - I'd be grateful for any comments, good or bad.

The colors are very crisp, and really stick out. The horizontal cloud (contrail?) across the middle of the sky is distracting/out of place. I love the contrast between the different colors of soil. I think i'm done rambling...

Thanks hatmandue. It's an interesting point about the vapour trail - I quite liked it but I see what you mean about distraction.

Hmmmm.....I like the trail too and didn't find it at distracting. If anything the sky is tooooo blue.
I find also that if you would have crouched down to get the tree in the FG up into and overlapping the sky (the top just touching the horizon is not a good idea) , It would have allowed you to crop out some of the terrain - which is too much. The way it is now with the tree down in the corner you didn't really have much choice.

The winter sun seems quite high, indicating it was near mid-day (and thus taken looking east). Later in the day, the sun should be shining across the furrows in the field, and it would be lower, and should cast horizontal shadow lines for nearly 1/2 the image. I think they would have added quite a bit of drama to the foreground.

So often the difference is just timing. Unfortunately we don't always have the time to sit and wait - at least I often don't, and futhermore I don't often think of it (although it's easy to look at someone else's image and see what could be done differently ;)).

The contrails can be removed with a few minutes of work in PP.

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

Thank you both for your relies.
Spike - I agree with you about the tree, but I was on a rise, behind a hedge!:(
Glenn - You say that the vapou trail can be removed, but do you think it needs to be, or is it a part of the picture?
