This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the break down of the game. I will post a picture, that I like, resized to exactly 900 pixels maximum on the longside. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to the levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take only one crack at it.

The participants must have there "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide a simple breakdown of how they edited the image (some entrants are a little vague on this point please give us all details) so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

Also, please keep all comments be it positive or negative to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the a game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After #8).

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on
January 15, 2008 @ 12:00noon MST.

2nd. Hue / Saturation, adjusting the Yellows to +70, +16, -49 to make the grass green.

I actually had a hard time trying to figure out what I wanted to do with this pictures so this is what came up with.

1- Darkened the sky to see the could better.
2- add contrast
3- brightened up the land a bit.
4- added more contrast.

My take
Colour balance shadows- midtones and highlights masked sky
Hue and saturation increased on sky only masked rest
curves adjustment
converted background to smart filter then adjusted shadows and highlights

Good moring. This is a very beautiful picture.. I tried to leave it as close to what it was that I could but still give it a little boost.

Played with curves till I got what I wanted
did some selective colors.
did a little dodging and burning
noise reduction
borders

High pass filter at 100pix on an overlay layer
color balance -100 cyan and +100 blue
Brightness and contrast -39 on both

and a little masking on the shadows to brighten them up some.

An eight followed immediately by a parenthesis makes a smiley face. The same thing happened in the posting of the rules.

As for my attempt at this one....
In Camera Raw:
-Boost Exposure to +.20
-Recover +100 (for clouds)

In Photoshop:
-Duplicate Layer
-Neon Glow filter (orange) ~70% fill, blend mode Color Dodge
-Duplicate original layer and put as top layer, mask for the sky, change blend mode to Multiply (twice)
-Duplicate original layer and put as top layer, use diffuse glow and change blend mode to Soft light
-Merge Layers and apply some selective burning
-Create frame

Here's my go at it.

Opened it and copied the original.
First thing I did was created a mask on the grass and adjusted the layer in CMYK. I took out Cyan, Magenta and boosted the yellows.

I then created a group and inversed my original sellection(the grass) and adjusted the sky and mountains. Again through CMYK, levels and colorbalance I was able to get the sky the way I wanted it and at the same time brought out the mountains.

I then messed with the opacity and added a little bit of shadowing in the brush and that was it. There's more order to it then how I explained it but I was all over the place and tried to remember as much as I could.

Thanks to everyone for a great effort on this one. An exceptionally difficult decision to make and in the end I couldn’t decide; I saw the art in each rendering and liked it. Conscripting the aid of my wife Joy, we narrowed the field to four: (in alphabetical order)

Bittersweet
Digger
Eastcoastsponger
Toad

At this point a referee needed to intervene so my ball cap with the beer bottle opener in the brim had to be pressed into service again and in a two out of three falls decision Bittersweet is the winner.
