Are 40D users snobs?

I have been reading the "ashamed to call it a rebel" thread for some time now and I detected an on going sentiment.

...there seems to be a middle range snobbery going on here that both the xD and the xxxD owners don't seem to indulge in. I personally find that xxD camera owners can be a little more 'Well I have an xxD, not some cheap Rebel'...sorry but it's still not an xD!

... 40D. It's, IMHO, the 'Boxster syndrome' of DSLRs

So I put the question out there to the forum.

"Are 40D users snobs?"

"Do they (we) think themselves superior to 400D users?"

"Are 40D users compensating for something?"

Etc.. etc...

And the converse, are 400D users overly defensive of their cameras in the face of the 40D?

What happens if you're a 1-series user? ;)

I was a xxD user and I don't find anyone using a xxxD less of a photographer or has less experience.. I've seen some great work done with a xxxD.

man i am a 40D user (and a 5D user) and i even started that original thread. I don't consider myself a snob. I think that the rebel series is a great starter DSLR. I started w/ a rebel XT, took some great photos with it. Spent over a year on it learning....but i don't think i would be shooting weddings w/ the rebel series.

Maybe that makes me a snob, if so be it.

I'm glad this thread isn't a flame war.

But when I read your post, I thought it was bait.

You may as well ask if some people are mean.

i dunno.. its a good question. i know a few people who have a 40d. and they seem to think that their camera is the pooh. but they keep getting problems with it.. shutter, wheel, trigger button, pop up flash breaks.

and to this day.. i still have had 0 problems with my camera. maybe a hot pixel here and there. but those can be photoshopped out.

things that i would like to see in the XTI that the 40d has.. is the iso 3200. but otherwise nothing else.

so.. to answer your question.. are 40D users snobs.. hard to say. could it be someone might feel that way because they dont have a XXD, Xd, camerea? and here we are with the little XXXD.

i guess it depends on how you see things.

honestly, i have met aholes with 400D, 40D, 5D and 1D. i also met super nice people with 400D, 40D, 5d and 1D.

i think that aholes will be aholes no matter what camera they buy. if somebody feels superior because of a freaking material object, i wouldn't worry about them too much since they obviously have much bigger problem regardless of the camera.

I think n00bs are. The ones that went to BB or CC or anywhere and got one. People with cameras, not photographers. I'm actually debating on selling my 20D for a 350D with grip. For one, I can get $100 from it and I need that. I don't see it as downgrading too much though. Just need to get used to the controls again now that I only shoot in Manual.

Not inviting flaming, only discussion. I guess i could ask the question as I am a 40D user.

I don't think what equipment you have should have any bearing on your attitude towards those w/o. I happen to have $20,000 + of bodies and lenses. Some have more, most less. What matters most is what can you do with what you have chosen / can afford. End results speak more than what you carry.

AMEN!!!!!

there are tons of people out there with TONS of gear (tons of L lenses, 1D bodies etc..) and yet, their work is average at best. than you have people with a 300D and a kit lens that simply blow your mind every time they post a picture.

whys it matter, let the final picture do the talking...

especially between the 40d and the xxd series of cameras, IQ is virtually indistinguishable.

If your judging yourself by the type of camera you have, your probobly in it for the wrong reaons. .
If your judging others by the type of camera they have, your definitly in it for the wrong reasons.

Might be time to sell the camera and buy a porsche instead.

I haven't noticed any particular snobbery from those with 40D's. I think that the snob-to-normal ratio is about the same regardless of model. Perhaps a bit higher on the more expensive bodies, but not enough to quibble over.

Now, those 1D2 owners..... :)

j/k...
