Canon AE-1 Program bought from a friend in mid 80's.
Got away from SLRs because I just couldn't afford the time to practice and spending on film costs.

5D and a bunch of other stuff!

I had many Polaroids, little Kodaks and 110s like many of us. Finally got my first real camera in '79 with the Canon AE-1 w/ 1.4 lens. Graduated to an A-1 and like previous post still have several HEAVY camera bags of my old gear. Sad how little it is all worth on Ebay now.
I played around with the Fuji E series of Digital cameras for about 5 years before I came back to Canon. It was a tough decision which Canon (or Nikon D-80) to buy but I settled on the G-9.
I like the 12.1 MP w/ Image Stabilization, 3" PureColor LCD, 6X optical & 4X digital (a fair 35-210mm 35mm equivalent), hot shoe, lens accessories with the ability to use filters and RAW image recording. So many features in a camera the size of the old Rangefinders.
I didn't want to lug around a monster camera bag but I DID want superior pictures AND the creative freedom to change the camera exposure settings.
Maybe if someone invented an adaptor for my old FD lenses I'd buy a big DSLR. For now I love my G-9.

Yashica FX-3 was my first SLR for a long, and then the Elan II (EOS 50) was my first Canon SLR when it first released.

Man, remember the prices of film SLR back in the days....

My first SLR was a Minolta SR-1 which I purchased in 1952 at the Navy Exchange in Yokosuka, Japan. Still use it. It made the sharpest pictures that I had ever seen at that time. 2nd was Canon AE-1 and I still use it. Wish I could afford to get more FD glass. I now have Canon Rebel XT and any spare change goes for new lenses for it.

Canon XT for me was my first true SLR....I am not including pseudo-SLR's like the Sony F717 or my father's film Nikon SLR(since it was not mine).

A Canon Ftb, purchased on Okinawa, in 1972.

Same here, except for the Okinawa part - thought its possible. It was a hand-me-down from my father and he was in the Navy, so it could have been a cruise purchase. ;)

A Miranda Sensorex. Consumer's Reports said it was just as good as a Nikon F!

Just one in a 12 pages thread?

Mine also was a Canon FT QL with an FL 50mm f/1.8 ( or 1.2 ? ) I bought in Genova, Italia (GENOA in English) in 1971. It was stolen from my home in 1980 and replaced by a Canon A1. The A1 is great, but I wish I had the ST QL nowadays!
