Explain This Lighting

I shot this photo of an obviously excited Jaguar fan on Saturday night. The Bud Zone sign is "Budweiser Red" as seen in the woman's hair. I used AWB as my setting.
I have shot "neon" type lighting many times (cityscape type photos) but never paid close attention to see if any of the red shifted color.
I know someone can enlighten me on the particular gas in this tube and how to capture it in the original red.

The letters shift color because they're overexposed.
If you shot Raw, try lowering exposure.

Rene is right, but PP of RAW would not fix this photo, as the adjustment would affect the overall shot (unless you did some fancy work with masks!).
PP would cause underexposure of your friends, while improving the redition of the sign.

This situation is fixed at the time of shooting, by not only judicious choice of f/stop, but also very judicious selection of shutter speed -- so that the shutter+f/stop capture the Bud sign at proper brightness to render it in true red color.

Please do show your results as to how you managed to fix your picture! It's very educational!

I agree with Rene' about the cause of the problem. However, the red channel is most likely clipped so bad that it can't be saved via RAW converter adjustment.

So what is the technique needed in order to capture the correct exposure *and* the correct red tonality? I'm most curious to learn...

Meter the lights and manually set the aperture and f/stop. Then turn on the flash and shoot away with flash in ETTL!

Reducing exposure to capture the lights without clipping would get their proper color. But they are so much brighter than the wall they're mounted to, that wall will likely be rendered nearly black when you dial back the exposure that far.

It's extremely difficult to expose a light source without clipping and still get decent exposure of the surroundings.
