Does Photoshop create a history of what has been done to an image, so that you can go back to it and remind yourself what you did to it to make such a mess of it?

Histories are only tracked within a session. If you want a more permanent record, you need an application whose history is fully tracked like Lightroom. Photoshop writes temporary data to the scratch disk, changing the original file...Lightroom simply keeps an instruction set of what you've done and applies it nondestructively. If you simply want to have options open in terms of "dialing back" changes you've previously made, the trick in Photoshop is to make heavy use of layers and adjustment layers...and, sadly, saving incremental file changes as you work.

Okay, thanks. :-) Lightroom sounds good. That is something I want to get in the not too distant future.

I have just been looking through Photoshop and was wondering about the File Info option. I presume I could leave myself some notes about what I have done in there couldn't I, or is there a more suitable place to attach notes to an image?

Thanks

Mike

:-)

Yes, I've left notes to myself in the File Info before. It's easy to forget you've done it, though!

Thanks Damo. I think I'll do that, then leave myself a note somewhere else to remind me about the note in the file info section!

I think I read somewhere that PS can write history to a text file. Not sure about that.

Thanks Frank, I'll have a look into that. :-)

For now I've just added some notes to the file info section of the images I was re-editing.

Photoshop can definitely write its edit history to a text file, i've seen it done. Google will tell you how.
