I was wondering if it is possible to use an Olympum FL-40 flash on a Canon EOS 30D Camera.

Since the communications interface and protocol are incompatible, you will not have access to any advanced flash functions that would be available with the E-TTL flash units from Canon and some 3rd party suppliers.
