I like this picture.. I think the fuzzy/grainy feel goes with this picture and the name of it.. Well done on with useing the rule of thirds here. Nice work... :)

Heathersik I agree with you. Shots like these really tell a story with the subject and the grainy texture.

Great job.

This is a perfect example of when noise is good. There was a thread the other day with someone asking when and when not to have noise.

Perfect example, picture is great!

This was an ISO 800 image taken at dusk after 5:30PM in NY.... which for those who live here... is pretty dark. Used f/1.8 but noise was going to happen (and anticipated) and I'm just glad it wasn't "too" noisy... (thank you Digic II). Took it with the intention of the conversion, so kinda glad it turned out ok.... :-) Thanks for the comments!

I love photos like this. Is it me or is his right eye blurry and left eye sharp?

Right eye is indeed OOF.... shallow DOF.... f/1.8 At that aperature.... the area of focus is quite small... so given my distance from the subject, while I aimed for the top of his nose (to get both eyes in focus).... I missed and only got one in focus... :-( It happens... I noticed it immediately... was wondering if anyone would comment on that part.... :-)

I was joking... :-) The "Rule of Thirds" is great for when one is learning about composing.... and it has value... but it isn't a hard-and-fast rule that can't be broken.

Every image is different.... and not all can possibly conform to any one particular "rule." Do some of my images use the 1/3 rule? Sure. But many others don't.... and then some happen to fall into that rule by habit or training..... but then it's on a subconscious level....

My point is, while the Rule of Thirds is fine.... it's ok to break it..... :-)

B&W and grain definitely works for me here as well.
I wish both eyes had been in focus tho...anyway to apply some USM to make the eye a little less OOF?

I'll try and dig up a full frame of him... looked like he had a hard life... but yes... it's possible to have a hard life, and yet still be happy! :-)
