I bought the Wein Peanut (non-digital) to fire my 430EX remotely while using a PC cord to trigger a 285HV. (I am shooting in manual mode on both the camera and the flash). Unfortunately, the peanut is not firing the 430EX. However if I switch things around and trigger the 430EX with the pc cord and put the peanut on the 285HV it works fine.

I was shooting at a flash sync speed of 1/250. Are there any known problems with the 430EX and the regular Wein Peanut. Could it be related to the high flash sync speed? I didn't think of trying it at slower speeds on the 430 since I was able to continue by just switching the peanut to the 285HV.

The Canon Speedlites, except for the 580EX II, are notorious for not working too well with the majority of the optical triggering units out there. Your only option would be to use the 430EX to optically trigger the 285HV.
