Initial thoughts about the brand new Macbook Air?

The name is weird. Makes me think they bought and absorbed Nike.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

You won't share a drive by ethernet on the mccbook air - there is no ethernet port. There is also no replaceable battery, the ram is soldered onboard etc.

I love apple, but they missed the boat on this one.

another piece of high priced design. if you are a light user then maybe. to my understanding there is no power port? you gotta bring along that stinkin' pad? it better be foldable...

i paid $2200 for my 24in imac (well actually my workplace did) and totally regretted it because i could have gotten a pc with faster specs. who said designers and adobe users need mac? thats the stupidest "fact" ive ever head in my life. i will never fall for that line again thats for sure.

ill take a fully loaded ibm laptop anyday that has been proven to be able to take punishment and still have left over cash for a new camera body. thanks

I dunno about this one. The battery, RAM, and hard drive are sealed up in it like an iPod which makes upgrading and even getting a new battery a hassle...

Canon 1DMKIII, 7D w/WFT-E5A, 40D modded with Baader filter, Celestron CPC1100, Astro-Tech AT8RC on a Celestron CGEM, some fast lenses, and some tripods...

This is my main concern. I am worried Apple is going to try to kill the aftermarket upgrade world.

They are moving in the direction of trying to make oversized Ipods where you "have" to take it to an apple dealer in order for something to get upgraded or fixed.

And like I was saying earlier after it goes out of warranty it's going to be difficult to even try to get them fixed.

The largest thing that has me concerned is they make it seem so easy to wirelessly access someone else's computer to add software to your own Macbook Air. Well they are assuming you have another computer...what if this is the only one you have?

Mac Book Air

Looks like Steve Jobs has lost some weight:

Now that is something new and unique in the market, and at NZ$2,000 not to badly priced.

So long and thanks for all the flash

It looks very cool, the top version even comes with a solid state hard drive.

I was hoping for better updates on the iPhone though.

Does it have a DVD drive and stay that slim?

No, you have to buy an external dvd drive.

No built-in optical drive, although they offer an equally slim external drive. I watched the demo over at the Apple site. Looks like they're basically touting it as being a wireless device. No ethernet port, wireless and bluetooth only. It does allow you to connect wirelessly with another pc, or mac, and use their optical drive remotely. You can get it with a 64 gig solid state hard drive, but at about a thousand dollar premium.

I like the trackpab idea- borrowed from ipods. Could be useful for photos. I would however like to see it on a MBP for me to buy into this latest development.

I do as well, but I was hoping for more memory, and picture message capabilities.

I cannot get one until next December anyway though.
