I often see adverts for used camera equipment on Craigslist which purport to give an "shutter acctuation count" ... and I am wondering how one goes about finding this information from inside the camera itself, in this case... my 5D.. i'd be interested in knowing how many times i've fired the shutter... any ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,

Steve

Shutter counts are stored on 1 series cameras only. There are a variety of applications around to access that. Nothing on the others that I know of, including the 5D.

Beware of picture numbers.. those are easily reset.

It can't be done. Only the 1D series keeps count. People estimate based on their file numbers but it is not verifiable.
