Hi all
I have a question about the use of D30 with internal flash. When i take quickly a serie of photos with the flash manual mode) one out of two is seriously underexposed and the next one is find and the next one is underexposed etc etc.
I i leave some time between picture all of them are fine. I naturally supposed that the flash does not have time to charge, but nothing on the camera indicate when the flash is correclty charged.
Can you help me?
Thank you
Dan
My D60 has a similar problem with both the built-in flash and an external Speedlite flash. It would seem that this is a feature of Canon's E-TTL flash system. When the shutter is pressed, the camera fires off a pre-flash a split second before the actual flash. The preflash is used to determine the actual flash exposure for the shot. This flash exposure is based on that required for the object that is in the center AF area. If there is a whitish object there, then the resulting photo would be underexposed because the camera would want to make it 18% grey. Conversely, a blackish object would come out over-exposed and a greyish object would come out properly exposed.
The trick then is to take note of the tone of the object in the center of the frame when you are composing the shot. If it is not close to a neutral 18% grey, then use the flash exposure lock to set the flash exposure on something in the vicinity that has a tone close to if not 18% grey and then recompose and shoot.
