The website has some pre-production pictures, but what is more important - many questions answered on the mini blog.

Looks and sounds very promising!

Well, I guess I'll update myself:

"We expect to release some high res images of the placement of the transmitter and receiver on actual hardware - those pictures should be out later this week and it’ll be much more clear as to how exactly the units attach."

I hope this hasn't been discussed already.. not many radiopopper threads came up in my search....

but i was wondering what people's thoughts were on the radiopopper since it's not a hotshoe device... Meaning you'll still need a 2nd flash and all this velcro to attach it with.

I was hoping it'd allow me to do off camera flash but I guess I'd still need to pick up a 2nd one or the ST-E2... The velcro's not a huuuge issue, I just preferred to be able to keep my gear clean of any stickers and whatnot...

The only advantage, and it's a big one, is the ETTL.. So are the other things deal breakers for anyone?

I've seen pictures of flying saucers and unicorns, too.

Anybody know how the Radio Popper transmitter picks up the ETTL command signal when it's mounted on top of and a little to the rear of the flash head? I didn't see any wired sensor fitted beside or in front of the flash head.

On the 6th,7th and 8th photo the wire is shown ;)

Considering that they're only useful with multiple dedicated strobes, we've already established that despite being cheaper than Pocket Wizards, these will only work for people willing to spend more money than they would on a PW/non-dedicated strobe system. So, if you leave money out of the equation, the only real downsides are the space they take up and their range, which shouldn't be that big a deal. As for me, though, SB's and PW's all the way ;)

On the other hand, one might look at it from the perspective that the RadioPoppers will open the range and versatility of RF to all those currently using ETTL systems. Canon and Nikon (who should have gone RF in the first place) are sitting pretty to sell a lot more flashes for those not interested in metering.

Moreover, the RadioPopper Jr. should considerably up the price / performance ante even for PW owners and fans. Even acknowledging how nice multiple channels are, it's hard to make an argument that PWs will be worth a $275 difference over a RP Jr. It may not cut into PW's professional sales much, but I would expect this to considerably dampen hobbyist sales (no pun intended).

You will always have die hard PW/Elinchrom users and they will not admit it that another device out there that can be cheaper or more expensive be better or could be better. That's just how the world turns. A hobbyist or professional, these radiopoppers looks pretty good for what they are saying it should do.
