Very fun idea. I would probably store it in a way though that would cause a knot. Just my luck. :D

About a zillion times. Search for "string tripod" or "string stabilizer". Consolidated here.

I made my first chainpod in 1977 - same concept using light jack chain and a 1/4-20 eye bolt. I have used it all that time, and now I carry one in each bag.

The chain is hooked to the eye bolt with an S-hook. I like the chain because I can connect the eye bolt to the tripod socket and drop the chain - it usually doesn't kink and drops all the way to the ground, and the eye bolt allows movement back/forth or side/side. I wouldn't want a loop on the end - mine is about 7 feet long, and it allows me to hold the camera steady over my head (and the crowd ;) )

The string definitely has a weight advantage though.

Have Fun,

Rick

I've seen this before. Some people suggest chain though. Don't recall why. Maybe it's sturdier. I should do this tomorrow.

No stretch.

This probably only gives you a stop advantage (not much). It doesn't help at all in the horizontal plane for camera shake.
