That is definatley something that I will check on. Didn't think of a used 20 or 30d. If the price is close that would be the way to go!!
Thanks, Kath

Check on here, as there seems to be plenty of nice ones floating around lately :D Its a great choice if you do it, I think.

The lens choice you have selected looks really good; I think the 24-70 would be redundant in your situation.

One thing I don't see in your gear list is a flash though, I'd recommend at least a 580EX II and probably a 430EX as a second flash.

I also agree that you would probably be better looking at a used 20D or 30D to compliment the 40D instead of the XTi.

I have a 420EX right now. I also have an AB400. Will most likely get the 580EX. Once I make a firm decision on the len lineup, then I'll work on the lighting.
Thanks, Kath

Sunny, next time try and tone it down on the all caps in the titles please :)

My advice would be to wait on the 24-70mm
It's the lens I find I need the least, even though for many it's the one they reach for the most.
I tend to be shooting either wider or longer most of the time.

Sorry about the caps.:o
Most of the posts I've read have been awesome on the 17-55. I don't plan on going full frame anytime soon. I think that going with the 17-55 will be my best bet. There are alot of great lenses & it really is really hard to decide.
Looking back at my pics, I too shoot either wide or on the long end.
Thanks, Kath

There's no such thing as the LAST lens. There's always another :-)

How true. I must be sick. I haven't even bought the lenses I picked out yet & I'm already thinking about long primes for future purchases!

Thanks everyone for your input.

Kath,

I don't think that redundancy is as much as a problem when you have the two camera bodies, and you will of course be getting the 5D update soon:)!

I hardly ever touch portrait photography but I plan on occasions when I'd want a tripod-mounted camera (using the 24-70) but have some hand-held freedom (17-55 IS) as well, and being able to set one camera up for one and then grab the other for the other. In that case, some lens redundancy is great! And I gather the 24-70 is a fantastic lens, although with the stuff I do I don't often use it:(!
