Hi There

I have a 1Dmk3 and a 40D, 24-70L F2.8, 17-40L F4 and a 70-200L F4

I am financing a 70-200 2.8 IS purchase by selling the F4 70-200 version and possibly the 17-40.

I am not sure if I should keep the 17-40 but I really have not used it much since I got the 24-70, I'm wondering if I'd regret selling the 17-40. I might replace it with a wide prime later.

What do you think guys, keep the 17-40 or will I not miss it?

Thanks

Marcus

i have the same lenses as you and a 1d3. no way in hell i sell the 17-40L!

the 17-40L becomes a lightweight, hi-quality, 22mm - 52mm zoom on the mark III.

in fact i think i may use the 17-40L more than the 24-70L as a walkaround and the 17-40L is certainly my landscape lens.

which prime would you replace it with?

If you don't use it, then I'd sell it--but its really a question only you can answer. For me, no way I'd sell mine. :)

I'm like that too. If you don't use it, sell it. But it is really up to you since it is your lens.

If you're hesitant, don't sell it. You''ll probably regret it later if you do. If at some point you see you aren't using the 17-40 and have no hesitation in selling it, then that's the time when you'll be ready to let go.

Set a date when u will want to dispose of it. If by that time you haven't used it and the 24-70 is suffuicient for your needs then sell it if it will make you happier or need more funds. You don't get to use all your lens collection at the same time :)

Thanks guys, I've decided to keep it, it was my first L lens and the one that converted me!

Good decision. Never know when you might need a back up.

Speaking of which. I have a backup for a backup. 70-200/2.8IS + 70-200/4 + 200/2.8L. I may decide to get rid of one - but not for now cause - I'm a HOARDER! :)

I'd love to keep the 70-200/4 as it is awesome but I just can't justify having two of the same.
