Last week, there was another get together of the intrepid North West POTN members in Manchester, this time in the Castlefield area. This was our second night shoot this year and it is hopefully going to be a regular occurrence, so any more POTNers in the NW who fancy a trip out with like minded photographers will be more than welcome to join in.

These are my four favourite shots from the shoot, I would be happy to receive any comments / constructive criticism etc (good or bad, it all helps), so please let me know what you like / dislike.

I'm unhappy with mine from that shoot a mix of f22 and a cr*p tripod the new one's on order.
Tonight's my first proper night off since the night so I'll have another look.

I like all of them.
1st one has the weakest composition. Still a good shot, but I am not sure about the bush and general composition. I wish you were closer (passed the bush) and wider.
second and 3rd are fantastic. The sky in second is a touch too bright, and I wish it were not gray. Maybe a hind of blue or red in it.
4th one is very good, but again, compositionally lacking a little bit.
for me they are B-, A, A, B+

The best of the lot would be #2. Very good composition and colours! #3 goes close, but not close enough.

The first one is completely misplaced! Its ruining the set

Many thanks for all the comments so far, I'm finding all the feedback very useful.

I agree about the bush in no. 1, I did another couple of angles on that building, including this one, and would be interested if anybody prefers this shot to the one above:

I prefer the first of the two, Graham.
I feel that the second crop is too tight?

I also prefer the first.
If the bush is compositionally a problem, which I'm not convinced it is then a possible crop to take it out.
I'm not saying it's better or not just it loses the bush

Yeah, your crop is definitely an improvement Stan.

I should have done that myself. I think that it didn't get considered for cropping as it was one of the ones I mailed to the manager, for possible sale, so I was leaving as much of the building in as possible, not knowing how much he would want in the shot. It is easier for him to ask me to crop it, than to 'add something in', if he hasn't seen the full shot.

I prefer the second #1, although i'll agree the crop is too tight .... it makes me feel as though i want to see along that lane to the right a little more. Some of the left could definitely be sacrificed. The first #1 is OK comp, but just not as an interesting shot as the second one.

#2 ... LOVE the water. Really like the grey sky in this one too, contrary to what Kevindar said. Why it works is because there's texture and movement to it, which balances out the colour of the water, and complements it's movement also. Really like the pavement coming towards the viewer in the foreground too. This is definitely my favourite shot of the 4 (5). There's so much to look at and enjoy!

#3 ... total opposite to #2. There's no dynamism to it at all. The sky is blah, and it's too dark in comparison to the foreground.

#4 ... more interesting than the first #1. Nice rendition of the lighting.

Like I said I'm not suggesting better or worse. If I'd have got one decent shot that night I may have been more cocky!!
I do wonder though how much non photographers are able to 'see' a crop in a picture or how much we have to do for them?
Have you had any feedback from that manager? or more importantly a sale!!

As for the other comments, sometimes I think you would really have to be in Manchester on a dull rainy night to get an idea of how lacking in colour and vibrancy (sp?) it really is. That's not to devalue them.
Sandpiper you have done an amazing job, I could only hope to emulate.
