Did someone say covered bridges?

Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) Lucerne Switzerland. Almost destroyed by fire in 1993 and rebuilt. These were taken in 2012. And is the worlds oldest surviving truss bridge. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapellbrücke (external link)) ...

Beautiful series Chuck. I think you've posted a few on here.
Always appreciate them.

Neal that is a magnificent bridge.
I love seeing the interiors, the woodwork, joints etc.

I'd like to see a thread for such but won't be adding as we don't have such here.

Interesting rail bridge.
That river looks rather full.
Wonder how often that house is inundated?

It was pretty high, but not as bad as a few years ago. There was bad flooding twice in the 15 or so years I've lived here.

From what I've read ...

Prior to iron construction, the wooden bridges had relatively short lifespans due to weathering. By covering the wooden bridges, it protected the structural wood thereby increasing the lifespan of the bridge.

Crumbs Charles that takes me back an epoch or two.
Watched that with my girlfriend (now wife), whilst we gutsed on hot roasted cashews and drank Fanta (fizzy orange cordial)

Love that movie. Of course it having been filmed in Sri Lanka (Ceylon at the time) might have something to do with that. A few years before I was born though.
