Not posted for a while, so here goes.

This sparrowhawk (close cousin of the sharp-shinned hawk) took this hapless greenfinch in my back garden, and then calmly perched on the fence to consume it.

The weather was very dull needing 1/160 at f4(5.6 with the non-reporting TC) at 800 ISO, the lens was my 300 f4 with a cheapo (£60) TC.

Nice catch none the less. Which TC did you use, the Kenko 1.5? Image quality goes down with that one, and I only use it when I have to. With the f/4 lens though, you should be able to use a better [reporting] one.

It says 'Teleplus' on it, but I suspect it is the Kenko one under a different label.

When I bought it I needed a non-reporting as my 70-300 is only f5.6 at 300, but the canon one is pencilled-in as the next 'upgrade'. Problem is, in the land of high taxes, high prices, and low pensions, upgrades come slowly.:(
