Could it be he means that it's slightly loose on the mount? The first 85L that I tried had a slight back and forth or side to side movement in the mount. It's really hard to describe, but maybe that's what he means?

Just tried what he described with mine and it does make a small knocking noise when you move the focus ring side to side off camera. I think it's normal... Gear List

Jan 24, 2008 19:17 | #36 There is a degree of play to be expected. It is not broken because of that. Some of my lenses have play at the mount also, in addition to what he's describing.
