I had resigned myself to another day of watching yellow locomtives parade back and forth over Beaumont pass when I saw this. I actually chased the train so I could get more shots of it. I haven't done that for years.

Actually, this was one of the units UP painted specially to honor one of the railroads they gobbled up in the last quarter of the 20th century. They also have special units whimsically painted to 'honor' the Western Pacifc, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Chicago Northwestern, and Rio Grande.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Excellent work, Tom. I like the composition and lighting.

Armour Yellow is such a hideous color.

Long live Lark Grey and Scarlet Red!

Ah. A kindred spirit. I actually used to like the yellow when all I saw were SP bloody nose units. I really wish I lived closer to the BNSF

Move up here! We have a BNSF yard about 20 miles from where I am at... and the yard is also about... 5 miles from ProPhoto Supply :-D

Camera store and train yard so close together... deadly combo!

Like a dumbass, all of my Espee shots from years ago got lost in a move. I had a lot of shots of the now long-gone Taylor Yard.

Oh, the Taylor yards. One of the saddest days in my life.

A couple of us 'snuck' into the engine facility many years ago, and we saw our first 'Bloody Nose' Alco PA units just coming out of the paint shop. It almost made me sick. Obviously it had previously been painted in Daylight colors, and the bas***ds painted it grey. I've hated the SP ever since.:lol:

Alco PAs were my favorite loco ever.

Beautiful images. I love the contrast of the different engines. Your framing is awesome!

Way back when, gaining access to Taylor Yard wasn't a problem. In fact, one time, I was on the pedestrian bridge near the hump and the tower operator invited me upstairs. I didn't take him up on his offer - didn't want him to get into trouble.

Never got to see the PA's in my time watching the Espee. I would've loved to see an A-B-B-A set of F7's though.

Nice shots Chief. We never get any wildly painted locos here...always the dull yellow ones....orange sometimes.

Saw lots of them in 'my day.' I actually got a short ride in one in Truckee. I was bugging the train crew for old copies of division timetables while my parents waited in the car. The crew invited me up into the cab, and while they were giving me a tour of the engine room, they got a call from the dispatcher to move to the other end of the yard. Mom and Dad followed along in the car and picked me up after my 1 mile cab ride. I though I'd won the lottery.

Thanks for posting your train shots. When I was a kid there weren't any trains near where we lived. I always looked forward to seeing the trains when we visited my grandparents in Portland. Seeing the engine, waving at the engineer, counting the cars, waving at the people in the caboose... it just seemed so neat!
