EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens

I saw mentioned in the 450D press release. Is this a new lens???

Any thoughts on it?

Like the standard kit lens, the optional EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS offers users of Canon EOS Digital SLRs with APS-C type CMOS sensors an affordable, lightweight, high-performance lens with tremendous range and flexibility. Given the 1.6x conversion factor inherent in the APS-C sized sensor, the high zoom ratio of this EF-S 55-250mm lens actually achieves the equivalent focal length of 88-400mm (in 35mm format).

The optional EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens is available at an estimated retail price of US$299.99.

I think it was released a few weeks after the 40D. It and the 18-55 IS make up a two lens "kit" to compete with the in-body IS from other manufacturers. I suspect they were supposed to be ready to ship with the 40D, but somebody blew it. There are some reviews around, and some threads here too.

New-ish, as xarqi said above.
