Did you notice the serious vignetting in all the shots?

Pretty awesome pictures. Were you ringside pressing the lens against the fence? I need to talk to the local MMA organizers and see if I can get a ringside seat next event.

These are great shots - how did you get around shooting "through" the cage? The last time I tried that, I got alot of crappy shots with chain links in them :(

I am shooting ShoXC this Friday. The cage has a wide platform which does make it really tough. The first two I shot the same way I do boxing with one body with 24-70mm f/2.8 but this time I'm going to use two 1DMIII's, one with 24-70 and one with 70-200mm f/2.8L IS ... the longer lens it to try to get through the cage better.

Thanks for weighing in, Dwight. You are yet another photographer I'm jealous of. I guess you could say Minneapolis, for all it's glory, isn't a prime area to make a living at combat sports photography, though I can't complain, because most guys (and gals) shooting on the regional level don't make a dime doing it.

PM is in your box. Just remember that I am 62 and didn't have any success with photography until I was 59.

I will be going to the casino this afternoon to check on the cage and probably shoot the weigh-ins and maybe some of the fighters. I will try to add a blog entry with pictures of the folks milling around the boxing commissioner's table or whatever. Everyone gets to see pictures of the cage/ring during the fights but nothing of the 'smell of the grease paint!' Link to my blog is in my .sig.

Sweet. I look forward to seeing the fight pictures themselves if you're up to posting them.

Very nice! I will be uploading my ShoXC Elite Challengers series images from Friday to FightWireImages today so expect them to be available tomorrow and will try to post a link here. The lighting director managed to get extra good lighting on the cage itself so all the links were nice and shiny bright making AF a nightmare, sigh.

Update: My linkage to FightWireImages is down so there's gonna be a delay, sigh.
