I've used a few of these type adapters ,all 0.42x versions.
I too found the results to be far above what they cost (just don't spend $99 on one from a ripoff seller!)

Is it always going to be cropped to a circle?

For $30, it's a fun lens.

exactly...

without PP yes, but you can put them into a defishing program that will give you a rectangular image... That combined with the IQ on this type of filter (the pixel blending) might be too far, but it's still a ton of fun IMHO...

Yeah, can't go wrong with $30 :D It's just like the nifty fifty!

once you zoom to about 24mm, the vignetting / dark circle is gone.

at that point i think its pretty comparable to the zenitar 16mm fisheye, not in terms of IQ, but the amount of distortion.

im just glad my kit lens has a purpose once again... lol

Can you post a picture at 24mm to show the amount of effect without the dark circle?

Will it fit on any 58mm filter thread lens? If so it would do the same job on the 28-80/90 lenses, and you could get it on a 50mm 1.8 ( not sure why you'd want to tho...)

It shouldn't fit, the 50mm 1.8 has a 52mm thread

I found one (perhaps the same link from above) that also included whatever size thread you needed through the use of an adaptor ring. I decided to spend and extra $5 for another adaptor so I can use it on all the lens I currently have, including a 50 1.8II. I hope to have it soon.
