Just received my new (to me) lens today: a 28-70 f/2.8 L. Wanted the 24-70, but got this lens used for a price I couldn't pass up. It may be used but it's new to me! So excited...gotta go find me a duck!

The IQ and consistency of IQ mainly Rene. I almost bought my bro's 24-70L but the images weren't only soft wide open, but consistently soft - wide open. He ended up trading it for a 28-70L a couple of years ago. I only had a play with it mid '07 and the images were amazing. Sharpness was absolutely pathetic! SAM

Jan 24, 2008 18:36 | #6 Sonno: I rented a 24-70 a few weeks before my purchase. I don't see any difference between the two in IQ, but keep in mind that I'm shooting with a 1.6x crop body. The reviews I've read, including the one Rene was kind enough to point out, seem to agree that the 28-70 is a little softer wide open, especially on the high end and around the edges - probably more noticeable on a FF body. That's counter-balanced by a bit more of a challenge with flare for the 24-70. It's also worth noting that the 28-70 is a bit lighter in weight. I believe that the 24-70 is weather-sealed, while the 28-70 is not. Then, of course, there's the price difference... --FMT--
