Went to the recent SJ Sharks Hockey game. these where shot with either a 85 f1.8 or 200 f2.8. Shot RAW with ISO between 800 and 1600. It really helps to shoot RAW as it gives you a fighting chance to get the colors right. Used AV mode with 2.8 ~ 4 and let the camera do the exposure.

On his way to scoring a short-handed goal. The cycling of the lights had this massively yellow and I still need to get better at PS Color Correction

Ice Dancing with the Puck

Actually got my 300 f4 in under my coat (felt like High School Dance with contraband hidden in a pocket) and found that it was too long a reach

Any suggestions on color correction sites ? I need to figure a way to get the ice a consistent white rather than various shade of ???

Thanks & Regards
Rick

I changed my WB to Flourescent setting seemed to help quite a bit on the color of things took the yellow out. and like stated process in Photoshop.Number 2 looks good as far as WB is concerned.

Im guessing these were through the glass?

Nice shots, and good job sneaking the gear in! I was turned away at Honda Center about a year ago, had to leave my XT and lenses in the car. :(

Thanks for the tip on using the Fluorescent conversion setting in ACR seemed to help get the ice right without messing up the other colors.

Rick:

Since reading a tip on one of these threads, I now take a custom white balance off "dirty" (ie skated on ice) before shooting a game. I find I now get very consistent colors on all my shots. Prior to doing this, there was one game I shot where every other shot was a different light color based on the light cycle of the moment! I have a thread on here called Pee Wee AAA - Game 2, which provides some examples of my latest game. They may be a tad overexposed on your monitor (my own PP problem) but the colors in each are consistent. Try the custom WB next game and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the tip. The last time I tried white balancing the ice I got this (WARNING bad photo, no laughing):

While the whites (ice and neck protection) are ok, the face is way off. I really need to learn to do color adjustments.

Regards
Rick

Yikes! Something is not right there! It should work better than that. I've not had to do any color balancing since using custom WB. Not sure what camera you have but with my 40D I shoot a pic of the ice only, then use the menu commands to use the data from that shot as the CWB. Then select the "CWB" option with the dials/buttons on the top of camera. Works like a charm.
