I have read some one say, if you update 1D camera firmware, the shutter count will reset to zero, is it correct? Anyone can provide advise?

No, it is not true.
Even if you reset file numbering, it is not important – you can restore it easily or you can set it to any number you like.

Besides, 1D series cameras keep the record of actual number of shutter actuations.
There are a couple of free (or almost free) programs that will reveal the real shutter count number.

So, there is nothing to worry about.
Just go ahead and update the firmware.

Does that apply to other Canon SLR's (the program that is)

Hehe. I suspect the concern is more for buying a camera without knowing its true usage history, not upgrading his/her own. ;)

hie.. anyone had a program to read shutter count for 30D???
i have been confused with the shutter count on my 30D. Since i bought the camera brand new, and upload the pic to flickr, sometimes it reads 30K+ count, sometimes it read around 60k+ counts. i upload only my last pic that i shot. Its impossible that i have shot so many counts.

Anyone could help me???
i heard we can get it through PS CS2 and above..

thanks before

There isn't one. Your 30D (and your 350D) will pick up the higher of the last frame shot by the camera or the highest frame on the current card. So mixing the cards between the two cameras will mix up your frame numbering.

Upgrading the firmware on your 1D won't change the reported shutter actuation count. The actuation count is merely a 'guide' and cannot be 100% trusted since this information can be changed quite easily.
