So, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. I go back for visits regularly. 2 years ago, on one of my visits, I passed by a row of 3 abandoned car dealerships near where I went to High School. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed there was a car parked in one of the showrooms, of these otherwise abandoned dealerships. Interesting, but ultimately no big deal.

FFWD to last week. I'm back in town for another visit, and I pass by said car dealerships again, which are still abandoned, and this car is STILL in the showroom just sitting there. I decide to investigate further. This is what I found:

This appears to be a mid-80's Chrysler LeBaron (K-car), in MINT condition (minus the flat tires). No idea why it's been sitting in that dealership's showroom like this. In the past, this was a Chrysler/Jeep dealer, and I have heard that the owner of this dealer liked to keep classic cars in his showroom(s), so I guess this one just got left behind. Pretty neat!

That is pretty neat. I have heard of several times this has happened. I think recently there was one with a Trans-Am from 79 or so I think that had no miles on it and had just been sitting there since new.

Although one would question why they chose a mid-80's wood vinyl sided K car to let sit there vs something else more interesting. But I guess it was a mid 80's dodge/chrysler dealership so not much worth keeping in those years to start with.

I would love to drive that car. I'd be laughing my a** off. I would get a license plate that read "one owner"

Thanks for the link. I looked for it earlier but only briefly. I'll throw the car shots in there too. Todd will probably bug me for the exact location. :D

You are most welcome. I also would not be surprised if Todd bugged you for the location!

They probably couldn't get it started to get it out of the showroom. It is a Dodge ya know... They probably forgot about it and never went back to get it. I bet if you told someone from Chrysler about it they'd try and get it back if they haven't tried already. The building may be owned by someone else by now.
