I had three Sigma lenses when I bought my 20 D and was told that my 28 to 105 F2.8-4 was compatable. Well it was not and neither was my 105 F 2.8 Macro or my 70 to 300 zoom. So on Wed I sent it to Sigma and today I received them back.

They fixed my 28 to 105 and my Macro but the zoom is a dicontinued model so not parts to fix it with.

Both lenses work fine with the 20 D now.

Just thought you would like to know. A one day turn around at no cost to me, except shipping one way.

I guess that that will always be a problem with 3rd paty lenses. I gave up on Sigma except fot the 14mm and 120 -300. every time I got a new camera ther was a different issue. I love the lenses when they work

The question I have is - Who told you they would work? If Sigma did, then you have a valid complaint. If someone else did - then put the blame where it belongs. The only lenses Sigma does not re-chip are older designs (usually quite old) that are no longer supported.
I have a Sigma 70-300 APO (the old version- several years old), that needed to be re-chipped. I was without the lens for less than two weeks, and it didn't cost a cent. I have no problem with their service myself (not that that proves anything, mind you).

B & H told me it would work. My old 70 to 300 could not be rechipped.

Then I would be ticked at B&H, not Sigma. (although to be fair, I'm sure it was an honest mistake. There are several similar varieties of Sigma 70-300 of varying ages). Although it is a pain to have to get a lens rechipped, as you found, Sigma is very responsive. Some lenses are just too old for them to be able to make them work on new cameras.

I'm trying to figure what ther is to complain about???

In this case it looks like Sigma provided excellent above averadge service. No?

Hey I am happy with there response. Now that I have gotten a firmware update my Sigma lenses are tack sharp and auto focus faster. I did't have to but a new lens oh well.

same problem here! I sent a new in box 70-210 to Sigma on Friday because it had AF incompatibility issues on the D30. The upgrade is free except shipping.

That turn-around seems great...maybe I'll get my lens back this week. I am crossing my fingers it works ........

glad to know some other people are in the same boat, but it really makes me want to stick with canon EF lenses, even though the price of offerings from sigma, tokina, tamron, vivitar, etc, are very enticing.

I think the complaint is that they were incompatible.

My complaint is with the fact that I had to live without a lens because I was told that it would work, but not from Sigma. I am also letting those people who have been lam basting Sigma they stand behind there product.

At the same time the new 20D update has cured all the problems I had with Sigma lens compatabilty.

So I am happy, but now I own 2 like lenses because no one knew how to solve my problem, from where I bought the Camera, and all my lenses.

Well,

Sigma sent me an invoice today. $50 to repair what appears to be a broken AF gear, in addition to a free incompatibility upgrade.

Not much I can do if I want a working lens, considering I didn't order the lens directly from Sigma.
