AI am considering switching to a Mac and am trying to understand just exactly what iphoto does with CR2 files - but documentation on the Apple site doesn't seem very forthcoming regarding iphoto features. Can anyone give guidance on this subject?

I do intend to switch my PC CS2 license to a Mac CS3 license in the near future but - wondered how iphoto worked as a downloader, quick previewer of files. Currently I use Downloader Pro and Breezebrowser for these purposes.

I know - many of you will recommend Lightroom or Aperture - but I am curious just what capabilities iphoto has for the moment...

Thanks,

Eric

Finder itself can view RAW files without any problem. As far as I know, the Mac has an automated downloaded, but I just use the one in Lightroom to do mine.

Card readers just come up as another drive, just as they do in Windows.

I don't use iPhoto since it's meant mostly for quick touch ups, but I loaded it and it imported cr2s fine. Far less control over the raw though--it'd be better to stick with Photoshop (where you have Camera Raw) or Lightroom/Aperture.

Can't speak to the technical question but, the day you buy a Mac will be one of the best day's in your life. One year later when you have not had any problems with it will be the second.

You betcha! I'll never go back to Windows!

To answer the query, iphoto is very basic. Not much control over fine adjustments with RAW. Very good for organizing and quick printing. I used it for the last year, and just this week upgraded to Lightroom. So far it's the bomb!

iPhoto is a basically a joke. For importing, you can use a program that comes with all macs called "Image Capture" From there you can put the photos anywhere you want on your hard drive and work with them in any program you wish.

I use Lightroom to download and organize my stuff, but before I had that, I used Image capture and CS2
