Decided to use my 430EX on camera to see what how it turns out - I normally shoot with natural light. I'm pretty happy with the results. I had a much higher keeper rate that when I shoot ambient. Critiques would be appreciated!

ISO 400, 1/200th, 2.8 or 3.5

I really like em. A few feel a little tight with the cropping, but you did a great job with the emotion of the wrestlers.

Bounced or direct with a diffuser? I've been shooting ambient only at iso=3200, same settings on Av and Tv.

Direct flash on camera. Wish I could bounce it. I really hate having dark backgrounds, but I think its worth giving up in order to have virtually no noise and nice color tones in the wrestlers.

I love the dark/blurred backgrounds for wrestling <unless you have a coach or crazed fan in the background adding flare to the scene.>

I actually love when H.S.'s have a great light over the mat and it really emphases the wrestlers.

I've been shooting HS for the past 2 months - our county middle school tourn last weekend and our county HS tourn this weekend. Fun Stuff!

I think your captures look great! I am also dealing/working with direct flash and wrestling. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing these.

they do look great. In some cases, the refs at my matches wouldn't let me use flash.

I go to Missouri and I shoot for the student newspaper, so I do every home match. I'm hoping they send me to Ames since it really isn't too far, but we'll see. It should be an exciting dual!
