So on Friday night there was a rival game, and I was on the opposite side from my school. Being a noob with the 580EX II and gym lighting, I tried a couple of bounce options, floor, roof, etc. It was this shot:

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

1/800 f/1,8 ISO 1600 50mm (580EX on ETTL, bounced towards the roof)

when the cheerleader in the front, the rightmost wearing the red "Senior" shirt

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

1/80 f/4,5 ISO 1600 28mm (no flash)

complained that I triggered the flash right on her face. she was about 4 rows above me, and then as i left to shoot on the corner she complained yet again to a big, burly man who was there to keep the peace should anything get out of hand. i quickly apologised, even though i had done nothing but my job.

gotta love people like that.

Ya, people like that can be a pain. But its their opinion as well, just as what i am saying here is mine. They do not know what "bouncing your flash" is, all they see is the flash pointed up...and as you stated, she was above you. It was more in her eyes than yours.

But why did you feel the need to put her picture on here? Just to make her look bad? Or is there some other reason besides singling a person out? As far as professionalism goes, that is far from it.

And just as a note: get used to it! It happens...

Just to make her look bad?

For the Exif data in the first shot, is the Tv correct? 1/800? Did you have the high speed sync on as the max sync speed for the 350D is 1/200? Just wondering. Thanks.

I had someone complain last Saturday about my flash. I shoot in portrait orientation with my 580EX II bounced off the ceiling. I shoot from the corner and sit on the floor. I had a lady complain that the flash was bothering her. She was at the other end of the gym (an elementary school gym). What a twit. My family was sitting in the first and second row closest to me and they didn't notice the flash. Oh well. You can't please everyone.

Yes, it was on HSS on that. But I believe it was on manual, but I have no way to check because i'm at school.

bigjon: Well, the flash was pointed away from her, WITH the catchlight up. So I would guess that she decided to be really funny about it and complain. As for this thread, I feel the need to complain myself, and as for professionalism, everyone has these moments.

Oh, don't get me wrong, there are times where i feel the same way...and usually don't phrase it at nicely when i am talking to my piers . The only reason why i mentioned professionalism is because you posed her image and pointed her out; I am guessing not with the intention to make her look better or critique of the photo. Not usually the nicest/most appropriate thing to do IMO
