Having shot with both, I'd take the 35L, unless you're just really into landscapes or something -for shooting people, the 35L is the way to go.

I know there's a big difference in field of view and personal preference, but which should I get? I'm leaning towards the 35L...
If anyone has compared both, is one faster focusing than the other? Which one in general has better corner sharpness?
I have a 5D.

I spent ages comparing both and the 35 came out tops

Like most above: It's about the FL, not the lens quality. Both lenses are fantastic in every respect. The only mistake you can make is not getting the FL that suits your needs.

For indoor shooting, unless its a HUGE room, I prefer the 24L on my 1.6x body. On my 1.3x, it goes either way, but usually the 35. But, thats just me. You have to determine which FL works best for you. Check your own shots, and see the FL you shoot most often.

For focal length on a 1.6x crop body, I think I'd rather the 35 (though it's academic as I can buy neither). I have the Sigma 30mm, and I find at times that it's a bit too wide - especially for people shots, but that's just my personal preference.

Actually, if I had the money, I'm not so sure I'd get either, as I'm so happy with the Sigma, I'd rather buy a different lens, to cover a different focal length :D.

I have a 5D and the 35L. It is by far my most used lens. I used it during all of the weddings I covered last year for about 90% of the time and I use it all the time for indoor pics of my family. I love it.

I'm on the fence about buying the 24L as I don't know if I'd need that FL that much. I don't do much landscape photography anymore because it bores me and the barrel distortion kind of makes close up portraits a bit "querky", but it would be handy for indoor group shots where there isn't much space. Hmmm.

I'n currently selling some gear and I might be able to afford it soon.

Damn, I hate it when I'm indecisive

The 35mm has better IQ than the 24mm, though slight. Mostly around the borders/corners. It is also slightly larger than the 24mm.

The 35mm on a crop camera is outstanding as a "standard 50mm" lens. Some might want a little wider and go for the 24mm.

Both are great lenses, though my personal choice is the 35mm. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Finally, most Canon L primes are a 72mm filter size, just as the zooms are mostly 77mm.

That stinks. I guess they have to be based somewhere though.

Wish I didn't live in Washington so I could get tax free gear from amazon:( I have "prime" too and it would be so nice....I'm way too impatient to use the standard shipping for free from Adorama, and usually spend the $ at B&H or Adorama on the next day shipping.
Now....on the subject
I think overall........The 35L is THE best prime I've owned, it is just fast, sharp and very predictable....It's my top lens on a 1.3 or 1.6 crop guess I just love the 50mm range for a walkaround......and when I want the shot and it's near wide to normal range, I put it on my 5D...great on the 5D for inside the house or smaller spaces, such as a low light no flash birthday party lens. I've never used the 24L but hear similar things about it.....Depending on what other gear you own, choose on FL between these two, I think neither will dissapoint

Can't wait to get my lens...

Tough choice. I love having both, and adore both lenses, but would probably keep the 35L if I had to pick.

Best idea: rent both and see which you like better. The difference in IQ is minimal. Both are extremely sharp, even wide open.

Clearly a wide FL fan... :)

I'd have gone for the 35L on crop, 50L on FF.

Me too, or, thats exactly what I did and it's near perfect for a standard FL

I'd say on a full-frame 5D go ahead and get the 35L. I REALLY want both lenses some day. I am probably going to get the 35L first though. Even though it would be used on a crop-sensor camera. I actually ordered it for rental last night for a two-week rental. Should be here tomorrow! That may be a mistake because then I'll just have to purchase it! I believe if I had it it would be the most used lens in my bag. Gotta love fast sharp glass!
