I'd say on a full-frame 5D go ahead and get the 35L. I REALLY want both lenses some day. I am probably going to get the 35L first though. Even though it would be used on a crop-sensor camera. I actually ordered it for rental last night for a two-week rental. Should be here tomorrow! That may be a mistake because then I'll just have to purchase it! I believe if I had it it would be the most used lens in my bag. Gotta love fast sharp glass!

IMO, the 35L shines brightest on the 1.6 crops, your gonna love it. I was a DOF whore for weeks after that combo...LOL:cool:

I totally agree... But then, I'm finding it's pretty slick on a 1.3x also!

Any less crop than that (e.g. FF) and I'd have to lean towards the 50mm.

That's not to say I don't love my wide angles, as I really do (as ekk_xti does). But I like having a "standard 50mm" equivalent.

It's funny how different people's preferences are. I don't particularly like the 50mm length (on FF), but love the 24, 35, and 85.

Although I still lust after the 50L...

The 50L is a heck of a lens ;) I'm now thinking about getting a 35L. However, I'd then have too many overlaps over that FL

Cheers.

You guys don't make the choice between these lenses any clearer. I too plan on buying the 24l and the 35l in the future. I am undecided about which one to by first. I have used both lenses and love them. I just don't know which one I need to buy first. I already have the 50 f1.5, 85 f1.8, 70-200 f2.8, and a Nikon 18-35 with adapter covering the wide end.

How about getting the 35L now and then pick up a good used 16-35L later. The 16-35 is a cracker in that it's got amazing versatility and you can be very creative with it. 24mm is also about its sweet spot and I use mine wide open at 2.8 a lot.

I only made this suggestion because if you like wide that's a good combination to own. That said, I will get a 24L too :)

But the 24mmf/1.4L is two full f/stops faster than the 16-35mmf/2.8L!

Yes, but that's why I suggested it as a partner to a fast 35L.

I agree! I have the Mk.II version and it's just a ton of fun.

So get a 14mm f/2.8L, a 24mm f/1.4L and 35mm f/1.4L and forgo the 16-35mm f/2.8L. :p

Almost, sort of, but not really... Like a 14-35mm f/1.4-2.8L zoom. LOL.
