Challenge #108 - Weather

[SIZE=2]Last week we looked back at the past, this week I would like to see the present.

We are right in the heart of Winter here in the Northern Plains of the U.S., and it's brutal outside today (30+ mph winds and wind chills in the -20s Fahrenheit). Show me what the WEATHER is like this week where you live.

COMMENTS:

Thanks to all who participated. Nice job! I was hoping to see a few more entries, but it only would have made it more difficult.

danpass "Start things gently" - I like the composition, and I'm a fan of the sun rays streaming through the clouds.

teekay "Stone Cold Grandpa" - The pose of the statue is perfect for reflecting the chill of the cold morning. I actually get the feel of the Grandpa shivering and trying to protect the boy from the cold.

Blast "Skim Ice" - Not a common occurrence in Texas, I suppose . :D Composition was a little off for me...I would have liked to see the horizon set higher, to put more focus on the icy pond and less on the sky.

quarters "hardwater" - Nice photo and the frozen waterfall is a good reflection of the cold temperatures. I keep wanting to see a little more of the surrounding landscape though.

EddS "Foggy Morning Traffic Jam" - I like how you can see more and more geese hidden in the background the more you look at the picture. Has me squinting to see how many more I can see. Nice capture.

Micky Daeus "Stormy" - Good job on something that's very difficult to capture. Unfortunately the long exposure that you needed makes the lightning overblown and blurry.

RESULTS:

#1: teekay "Stone Cold Grandpa"
#2: EddS "Foggy Morning Traffic Jam"
#3: danpass "start things gently"
HM: Blast "Skim Ice"

Take it away, teekay! Well done!

We had skim ice the last week-end of the duck season, but it warmed up fast.

Congratulations everyone. Great theme. Mickey, loved that lightening capture. EddS, waterfowling is my passion and I loved the geese in the fog, great shot. Lots of great photos.
GJH1020, great theme, great choices.

Thanks a lot for the first place, particularly given the variety and quality of the other contenders. My subject featured part of the artwork of a fine local sculptor, John McKinnon. It's in a public park but I'd still like to give credit here.

This was a good theme so it was a pity we didn't have more entries. Winning pictures for these challenges could be taken with almost any camera on this active forum so I don't know what's holding people back. Competing is a great way to learn if you're a beginner.

New challenge will be posted soon....

Thanks Blast. Teekay I agree, I thought that I would submit a few photos and get bored with it but I have managed to get a few places. When I have time I enjoy submitting entries, it make me think more about my photography all round, i.e. not just taking happy snaps.
