pileated having breakfast and posing

I got lucky and came accross this guy while walking the boardwalk at Corkscrew sanctuary, he sat there about 5 ft away from me until he was done with his grub, posed for a few seconds and then flew off.

Kr88, Corkscrew has been good the last few times i've been, painted buntings, gnatcatchers, downys, pileated, the usual collection of egrets, ibis and herons a lot of small birds i don't know the names of yet RSH and barred owl last week. Today I saw a wood stork there for the first time.

Cool to get so close. He's very handsome with his red crest. But that grub is HUGE!!

Guess i'm lucky I don't have a 400mm yet then, although when the tax refund comes in next week it's going to be a toss up between the 400 or the 100-400.
You're right though he would have been too close.
