Well, I just got off the phone with my camera store, and I have a 5D and 430EX on the way :) I was very unsure about whether to buy it or wait until the end of the year, but all the incredibly positive 5D comments in my other thread convinced me it was a good choice. With the current Canon Canada double rebates, I managed to get it for under $1700 with tax. That's probably $1000 less than what the 5D successor will end up costing, and I'm not sure the 5D itself will be around that sort of price for a while. I suppose it's good news for some people, since Canon will no doubt announce the 5D mk II for $1500 tomorrow ;)

I am really looking forward to owning a full frame DSLR. I can finally concentrate on buying lenses for their actual focal lengths! I have some cash left over, so I'll also be ordering a few goodies from B&H next week. Very exciting :D

Wow, under $1700 is a great price! Who did you buy through? I bought mine less than 30 days ago from amazon for $2000. Let me know and if I can get one too Ill probably return mine and jump on that deal.

hey, finally we canadian have better gargain here, as i found a few deals for 40d and 5d, canadian reseller selling cheaper than US (which in the past, US have far better deal).

$1700 probably because Canon Canada offer mail-in-rebate, with combination of 2 item purchase (more attractive than Canon US's Prix9000 + 5D)

You should probably start a thread about it.

Congrats! I was just telling a Canon buddy that I was disappointed that Canon did not announce a 5DMKII. I would have considered it. She asked, "What will you sell the old 5D for?" I said, "Well, I don't think I'll be selling it. Even with the new camera, I can't imagine giving my trusty 5D up. I'll use it for a backup." So there is going to be a market out there for old 5D's once the new one hits the streets, but can't imagine even a used one being too much under $1K. You got a good deal.

I cannot imagine a better camera for the money. I paid much more and have stayed off the rumor site ever since. Congratulations on your purchase. You'll be thrilled you pulled the trigger.

Yeah I've asked myself what would I do with my 5D if I got a newer camera and I've only had the 5D since early last summer. Well of course I'd keep it, I like it, it takes really good photos, so why do I want to get another camera, If I didn't get Cannon's newsletter and visit places like this forum I probably wouldn't even be aware that something was changing, I'd be fine with the most fantastic still camera I've ever owned.

Sorry guys, the reason it's so cheap is the double rebates we have running in Canada right now. I have a good relationship with a salesman at the store, so the price was lower than normal to begin with. I also bought a 430EX, which doubles the rebate to $700 (and $40 on the flash).

congrats on the new 5D. I've been toying with the idea for a while now, but just can't seem to make myself jump.
