Minnie just had her first Frosty Paws (well, the first that I know of...). :D

So my questions are: Do you know of any older cats that have adjusted to a kitten? Should I get one kitten or two?

Get six... ;) Every cat is different, so it's really hard to predict if Twink will like a kitten around. But, he was used to another cat in the house, so I'll bet he'd adapt pretty well. Just be careful where you look. I went looking for a kitten last week and ended up bringing a dog home...

My main concern is that if I email the teacher, she will feel obligated to report. Although in Indiana, EVERYONE is obligated to report any suspected abuse, even if they are not a teacher, doctor, caretaker, etc.

Sounds like you don't have a choice, then... ;)

LOL. I thought that said "Puddlepirates don't stink."...

Lonnie, did you see THIS?

No, I hadn't seen that. I also somehow managed to miss your post too, until Zane quoted it. I've been thinking about getting Minnie started on her travels by taking a trip to Rhyolite and Death Valley in a couple weeks, too. If I do that, maybe I'll give another try at some long exposures there again. I haven't done any of those in a long time.

cylentka wrote in post #4879946 (external link)
Hmm, I can't view it because I need Media Player 11, and my computer refuses to install it.

I haven't updated my computer in a long time. I'm still running Media Player 9, and that video worked for me.

Oh, one more thing before I go...

[Story deleted for brevity]

So... Should I mind my own business? Should I email the teacher and relay what Allie has been telling me and give the teacher heads up that the father may be abusive by our standards? Should I just keep my ears open for more info and make a move if it becomes more obvious that there is more than simple discipline happening? I'm leaning towards the latter, since I don't have all that much info. A switching is not necessarily abuse, and burns (if that is what it was) can happen by accident.

I'd say let the teacher know ... The teacher is required by law to report to the proper authorities, and may have already noticed behavioral or physical symptoms of abuse.

puddlepirate44 wrote in post #4879260 (external link)
Listen to Alan, Wanda, he's got some good points.

I would add that while it seems like you're sticking your nose into a bad situation, how would you feel if it continues, or gets worse, or begins to manifest in other ways in the girl's life as she gets older (I don't think I need to explain myself further). While you are not a "reporting agent" (like Eli's teacher) for abuse, you still have some moral obligation in the matter. By sending the teacher an FYI email, you're allowing the teacher to operate in a head's up mode. Teachers are supposedly trained to spot indications of physical abuse such as this.

Just my 2ยข worth.

What puddle said.

I gotta feel for those folks that are in over their heads. Sink or swim. They'll learn. I have a funny feeling I'll be doing the same Sink or Swim thing in a couple of weeks.

Be sure to use ISO100, don't want any noise in those pictures ..

That's funny. My cat made that exact sound last night and it took me an hour to clean it up.

Hmm, our cats always makes a kaaahk kaahk kaaah glaaaaarrrrk before they leave behind their little gifts.

Onomatopoeia is a wonderful thing.

Hmm, I use a big clunky beige keyboard, and a Microsoft mouse. I like my MS Mouse... :D And I love the keyboard .... It said it's a "Dell QuietKey" but the keys have a wonderfully resounding clack when pressing them. Very satisfying.

Just to prove how strange I am...

Muffin slept in my bathroom closet because it was safe and warm in there. I always kept the door open a bit for her. For some psychological reason, I cannot close that door all the way. When I picked up her ashes the other day, I put them in the closet on the floor where she slept so much. I still can't close the door.

So Lonnie how is she doing? Is she adapting, sad, spastic, sweet? Details man:) She looked right at home in Ashley's old bed.Once she has been around awhile is there a huge remote place you can take her off leash? You could let her run her heart out but keep her in eyesight. It would be a great place to work on calling her back to you and teaching her to stay with you. Does she come? Does she seem to know any commands?

Aww, sounds very normal to me. Leyla and me have told everyone when we die we want to be cremated and put in the same urn then scattered over a nice mountain. Shaken not stirred:)

Minnie won't jump up on the bed on her own (I was told she didn't jump onto furniture when I got her), but if I lift her onto the bed she'll cuddle in and stay with me for hours. I'm trying to convince her it's ok for her to get up there by herself, but I get the feeling she was trained that furniture is a no-no. I'll call her and she'll dance around at the side of the bed, tail wagging a thousand miles an hour, but after a couple false starts then stopping herself just short of jumping, she turns around and heads back to Ashley's old bed.

Both of my cats have no qualms about being on the bed, though. And even when I'm sound asleep, I can tell which is which the second they hop up there.
