I finally got around to calibrating my 135L on my new body (I finished with all the others). It seemed to be misfocusing some. After some trial and error, I dialed in +12 front focus correction which seemed to work best on my testing setup. I then shot these test shots of my favorite subject at ~1m (close to the near point of the lens). They were shot without flash at iso 1600 and f/2. I was very surprised at the results. I have included a crop at each focal point for you peepers (me included). BTW, the DOF at that range and aperature is ~2mm on either side of the focal point.

Fantastic.

Which bodies allow this? It may be another "must-have" for me when I go FF.

Thanks. Those big boys are just too big for me, so here's hoping that this feature makes it to the 5D+. Slim chance though, I figure.

Still, it would solve the biggest hassle I'm having (in my own small, low cost, hobby way), namely dodgy AF because of lenses that front/back focus. Does it only work with Canon lenses? Only a subset of them? Is there is good discussion on this someone could point me to?

Edit: I've just read the 1DIII white-paper. It gives a useful overview, but doesn't say if it's for Canon lenses (or a subset thereof) only - anyone know?

Very impressive. I hope this feature works it way down to the more humble offerings like the next 5DMkII or next months Rebel XTi MkIV turbo edition with its 1gigabillionmegapixels. Seriously, those pictures with that calibration feature are very impressive.

Tools: Canon 5DmkII, Sony a6400, Fujifilm X100V

Thanks for all the positive comments.

I have been stalking the house like a sniper this evening terrorizing all potential subjects. In case you thought the cat shots were "ringers", here is another test shot (ie please dont nail me for bad compostion) of the wife posing under duress...
Iso 1250, 1/125, f/2, room lighting. Crop included.

Can you show some pictures taken without the adjustment?

Yea, here is a typical one with adjustment set at zero. Shot looks resonable at 25%. Notice in crop hairs in plane in front of eye ball are in better focus than eye which was the focal target (ie mild front focus).

Congrats bailey, i do love the AF microadjust. I was able to confirm my suspicions about my 24-70. 13 backward and she's good to go.

My 24-70 was front focusing too. The most I had to adjust was +17 for the 35L!

I'm about to get a 35L! The LEAST I had to adjust was -2 on the 50 1.4
