Can't help...I only use SanDisk cards.

well, do you use an 8gb card? Is there any difference in your write time btw. it and the others?

This is just a write time inquiry...I'm wondering if it goes across all brands?

No idea.

I use 4Gb cards because I got a good deal on them, so bought a stack. They get well over 200 RAW shots on, so I'm pretty happy with that.

yeah, I really like my 4gb cards. I'm not so happy with this 8.

Have any of you who use an 8gb card noticed a slow down in write speed? My 4gb cards are lighting fast but yesterday I used the 8gb card and was shocked at how slow it was to write. They are two different brands (all my cf cards except the 8gb are silicon power which I absolutely love and the 8gb is transcend 133x).

Yes.

I have a 8 GB SanDisk Extreme IV that I used once in my MK III. After it was filled to about 6 GB it slowed down. Now I just use it in my 5D. So I only use 4 GB as max in my MK III.

Lisa, I've never noticed a difference with the 4gb and the 8gb sandisks on the 40D.

Nope...no noticeable difference between the speeds of any of the cards, regardless of the size with the exception of my 4gb Extreme IV...the is a bit faster than my Extreme III and Ultra II cards.

Interesting. I think I'm going to check around the forum and see if anyone else has posted about it.

I really like the silicon power cards (I started buying them once because of a good deal and after I found they wrote faster than the sandisk we had, I just kept buying them)...this was back in the 1gb days

In any case, I really prefer how quickly the 4gb write.

Perhaps it is a Mk3 specific issue. No focus and can't use standard memory cards either...hehehehe

seriously, I've read a few posts in various memory card threads and the only ones who do notice a slow down are shooting with the M3. I think I'm going to start a thread.

What would be interesting is if members that do not notice a slowdown are filling the card beond 6 GB because thats when I noticed the slowdown. If most never reach that then they won't notice the slowdown.

I did start a thread and I'll be interested to see if anyone has any insight into the issue.

Yesterday, my 8gb was only about 1/3 of the way full when I noticed the slower write speed.

Do you ever reformat the cards in your computer. Reformatting in the camera only erases the directory from what I understand.

When they're in your card reader, just right click (in windows anyway) and hit reformat. Oh wait, I don't own a Mk III, you don't care about my opinion. :p:p:p:p

;)
