Oh man why didn't this happen earlier! I made a deal and am picking up a 200 2.8L locally TOMORROW for $560 hahahahah.

Hey, at least you know you won't feel a need to upgrade your 70-200 at any point down the line.

Just today I sold my 70-200/4L PLUS my 200/2.8L. I haven't really used them as much as I wanted for the last 6 months...or about the time I bought the 70-200/2.8IS...so - I was offered more than I was expecting for them and ... now they're gone :(

I promised myself to at least use the prime every now and then, but I 'renagged' and the 70-200/2.8IS was always first out of the bag.

The "IS" was a huge draw card for me. Shooting at <1/160 is such a breeze with IS. Sharpness however isn't a match for the prime, but it's not too bad.

The size and weight might scare you at first, especially with the lens hood on - but you'll soon get over it. ;)

I tried and tried to convince myself I needed the prime (as I'm sure you have been), but as I said before, it just wasn't being used - so if you're having any hangups - DON'T! :) Think - versatility!

Congrats on the 2.8IS - you'll never regret it.

Regards,

Sam

The 70 - 200 f/2.8 L IS is an awesome beast of a lens. I'm certain you'll get a lot of pleasure out of it. I must confess I did a lot of soul searching before I splashed the cash on one. When I finally got one and used it I wished I'd got it years ago!
